The Nissan Livina also known by its chassis code L10. Remains a sought-after option in the realm of Low Multi-Purpose Vehicles (LMPV). Renowned for its comfortable suspension in comparison to its peers. This vehicle boasts a legacy that persists. However before deciding to preserve an aging Nissan Grand Livina it’s essential to understand its common issues.

Initially introduced in Indonesia in 2007. The Grand Livina came in two variants: the Livina accommodating 5 passengers and the Grand Livina, accommodating 7 passengers. The Nissan Livina was available in two variants: the XR and the X-Gear, both equipped with a single engine option – the HR15DE 1.500cc 4-cylinder.

On the other hand, the Nissan Grand Livina initially offered three models: SV, XV, and Ultimate. The lineup expanded with the addition of the Highway Star (HWS) variant in late 2010. This variant also offered two engine choices: the HR15DE 1.500cc and the HR18DE 1.800cc, exclusively for the XV and Ultimate models.

Taufan the Owner of Dream Garage

a Nissan & Datsun Specialist Workshop in Yogyakarta, highlighted several common issues associated with older Nissan Grand Livina models. “Both the Nissan Livina and Grand Livina have high engine compression, so users need to understand their characteristics. Otherwise, these cars might experience sludgy oil and engine knocking,” explained Taufan to Kompas.com on Saturday, August 26, 2023.

Taufan emphasized that the high compression of the engine necessitates careful selection of the appropriate type of fuel. Using low-octane gasoline can lead to engine knocking, resulting in suboptimal performance. Similarly, the engine’s high compression can lead to elevated temperatures, which poses challenges for the engine oil. Consequently, some Nissan Grand Livina vehicles experience issues with sludgy oil. “Pay attention to the condition of the oil when filling it, make sure it’s not crusty or sludgy. Delayed oil changes often lead to sludgy engine oil in these cars, which is not healthy,” Taufan explained.

In view of these insights, it’s crucial for owners of older Nissan Grand Livina models to be meticulous about their choice of fuel and diligent in maintaining proper engine oil levels. Additionally, regular oil changes are essential to prevent the accumulation of sludge, ensuring the longevity and optimal performance of the vehicle’s engine.
