President Joko Widodo or Jokowi released the delivery of 51.5 tons of Indonesian humanitarian aid to Palestine on Saturday morning, November 4 2023, at Halim Perdana Kusuma Indonesian Air Force Base, East Jakarta.
“The aid sent by Indonesia is in the form of food, medical equipment, blankets, tents and other logistical items which have been adapte to existing needs in Gaza,” said Jokowi in his speech.
Technically, humanitarian aid from Indonesia for Palestine will flown from Jakarta to El Arish Airport in Egypt, which is closest to Gaza International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)—two humanitarian agencies operating in Gaza
Apart from the government, Indonesian humanitarian aid is also collect by three humanitarian institutions, namely the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), the National Zakat Amil Agency (Baznas), and the Indonesian Humanitarian Forum. The aid was transported by two Indonesian Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft and one rent Airbus aircraft.
Indonesia supports the Palestinian struggle
Jokowi said this humanitarian assistance was a form of solidarity and concern for the Indonesian people towards humanity. Because according to him, the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza is unacceptable and must be stop as soon as possible.
“I want to emphasize again that Indonesia will continue to join the struggle of the Palestinian people,” said Jokowi, accompanied by Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, TNI
Gaza health authorities say at least 9,061 people – many of them women and children – have been kill since Israel began its offensive on Palestine in early October 2023.
Gaza has a population of 2.3 million. Israel carried out military aggression in retaliation for the deadly attacks carried out by Hamas in southern Israel.
Meanwhile, Israel claims the Iran-backed Hamas militia group killed 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and took more than 240 hostages in an attack on October 7, 2023. The event is considere the deadliest day in the 75-year history of the conflict there.
