Hundreds of Israeli citizens flocked to the central police station on Sunday, October 8 2023 to seek confirmation of news of their missing brothers and sisters after the Hamas attack from the Gaza Strip on Saturday which killed hundreds of people and kidnapped dozens of others.

Not only is the number of those missing unknown. But many are believe to have been captive in Gaza – including young children – and others are hiding in besieged Israeli villages.
The Gaza border area, which is just an hour’s drive from the police information center in Airport City, remains cordoned off by the military as troops continue fighting in the streets with gunmen.

A mother spoke to Reuters after providing her DNA sample and handing over a comb with hair follicles of her son. Who was at an outdoor dance party storm by Hamas gunmen. He refused to give his name. I did everything I could to find out what happened,” he said.

Outside the police center, a man prays with a rabbi as his fiancee fills out a report about her missing brother.

Yoni Asher, who has returned to his home in central Israel after repeated attempts to get help from authorities, said his wife was visiting her mother in the Nir Oz community near the border with their two young daughters when Hamas attacked.

“He told me that terrorist were in the house.” he said. Then the call was disconnect. Then, he found his wife’s cellphone through her Google account. The location is Khan Younis, a city in Gaza. He then saw a video spread on social media, showing them being take to Gaza.
“My two daughters, they are still babies, not even 5 years old and 3 years old… I don’t know in what way they are being captive. I don’t know what happened to them.” he continued.
