Sydney Opera House 50th anniversary

The Jørn Oberg Utzon-designed Sydney Opera House, perched atop Sydney Harbor with its shining white concrete shell, is one of the world’s most popular icons. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was completed in 1973, 2023 will be its 50th anniversary.
This celebration runs from early September to the first week of November and features many musical performances, dramas, dance recitals, talk shows, and more. Some events require tickets, but there’s plenty of free entertainment too.

Volume – A Festival of Sound and Visuals

From 22 September – 8 October, the Art Gallery of New South Wales will transform into a live music venue for the first festival of its kind. For 17 days, Volume takes over the museum every night and brings art, music and film fans together for a truly unique experience. Led by Grammy Award-winning multidisciplinary artist Solange Knowles, the festival will feature more than 50 free and ticketed performances. The festival will also showcase the newly expanded Art Gallery, first opened in December 2022 by Tokyo architects Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa of architectural firm SANAA.

Negroni Month

Although Negroni Week is officially held September 18-24, one Sydney hotel group is extending the celebrations for the entire month of September. Ovolo Hotels partners with the World’s Best Bar to bring a global Negroni extravaganza to the city. Participating bars include well-known venues such as Locale Firenze, Galaxy Bar in Dubai, Tropic City in Bangkok, 28 Hong Kong Street in Singapore, and many more. Each Negroni will tantalize the taste buds with unique spices and truly surprising ingredients.

SXSW Sydney

For the first time, Sydney is hosting South by Southwest, an annual festival that combines the worlds of film, music, interactive media, technological innovation, gaming and more. The festival originally took place annually in Austin, Texas, but has begun to expand its global reach with Sydney being its newest location. From 15-22 October, SXSW Sydney will feature cutting-edge performances and demonstrations that will place Australia and Asia at the center of the world of technology, media and entertainment.

Spring activities

If you want more adventure in and around Sydney, there are always plenty of activities to keep tourists busy. Hop on and off the Sydney Harbor Bridge, or quad bike on the unspoiled Worimi Sand Dunes, thought to be the largest collection of coastal moving sand in the Southern Hemisphere.
